Event Details

WHAT: Three-day canoe trip and camping on the Colorado River

WHO: Single cancer survivors who are 21 and older and at least three months post-treatment

WHY: Fun, connection, outdoor adventure, and informal discussion about life and love for the single cancer survivor. Dating isn't the purpose of the trip; it's an opportunity for single cancer survivors to gather and connect.

 WHEN: August 25-August 28

Thursday, August 25: Trip participants arrive in Denver, CO (mid-day) or Grand Junction, CO (evening). We will camp together Thursday night in Fruita or you may make arrangements for a hotel in Grand Junction if you prefer.

Friday, August 26: Meet at the Colorado River put-in site early in the morning. Spend the day paddling to the campsite on the scenic Colorado River.

Saturday, August 27: Hike, play in the water, or spend time playing games or talking by the campfire. We hope to have two awesome massage therapists join on the trip to offer body work.

Sunday, August 28: Paddle to the take-out point of the river, and arrive in Grand Junction by mid-afternoon for departure and flights home.

Experienced commercial guides from Centennial Canoe Outfitters will lead the trip as well as prepare delicious meals for trip participants.

Check out the Centennial Canoe Outfitters website for photos, video and more information about the stretch of the river we'll be paddling:

The Fine Print: A $50 deposit is due by August 1, 2011 to hold your spot. The deposit is only the cost for the canoe trip itself. Travel costs are the responsibility of the participant. Note: Departure flights SHOULD NOT be made BEFORE 5:00pm out of Grand Junction and 10:00 pm out of Denver. If a Monday morning flight is necessary, we can help you arrange for local lodging at a private home and transportation to the airport.

Travel Scholarship: A limited number of travel scholarships may be available. If interested, email solosurvivors@gmail.com no later than July 13, 2011. Recipients will be notified by July 22, 2011.

Hosted By

Tamika and Friends, Inc. Together Fighting Cervical Cancer

Tamika & Friends, Inc. is a national non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about cervical cancerand its link to HPV(human papillomavirus). Founded in 2005 by cervical cancer survivor and advocate Tamika Felder, our network of survivors and their friends spread the essential message that through education, prevention and treatment, cervical cancer can be entirely eliminated. Believing that creative communication is far more infectious than HPV – we provide many hands-on ways to spread the word to women in all walks of life.

Tamika & Friends invites all women and men to join us. We want to connect with you. We welcome your energy and enthusiasm as we spread the word: Cervical cancer is entirely preventable. You just have to know what to do.
